Tourist Guides Benevolent Fund Scheme
The Tourist Guides Benevolent Fund Scheme is a welfare and protection initiative for licensed tourist guides, with the objectives of providing certain financial assistance and personal accident protection to tourist guides and/or their families during times of hardship, particularly upon the death of a contributing member.
Tourist guides play an important role in promoting tourism in Malaysia and representing the destination to visitors. However, many tourist guides work either full-time or part-time. As such, some are self-employed, work on assignments as received, and may not have access to comprehensive contract employment welfare benefits.
A dedicated Benevolent Fund Scheme can therefore provide a valuable layer of financial cover which provides security and solidarity among members of the profession. The Scheme is based on the principle of continuous annual contributions by participating tourist guides through a fixed per-capita contribution. In return, members who fulfill the required contribution and membership conditions will be eligible for the benefits provided for under the Scheme. The contribution shall be paid annually by all participating tourist guides/member within the prescribed period and shall be a condition for maintaining active membership and eligibility for benefits.
The Scheme established a clear nomination process so that each member can nominate one or more individuals to receive the benefits. In the absence of a valid nomination, payment shall be made in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, and legal requirements.
In addition to the Benevolent Fund death relief, each eligible contributing member shall be provided with personal accident insurance covering death and permanent disablement of RM25,000, which provides 24-hour, international cover, 365 days a year. The intention is to provide protection regardless of whether the tourist guide is actively conducting a tour, travelling for work, or engaged in personal activities, subject always to the terms, exclusions and conditions of the insurance policy.
The RM25,000 insurance coverage is arranged through a licensed insurance provider, with the precise scope of coverage clearly stated in the policy documentation. The RM25,000 benefit applies to accidental death only and/or any other causes specified in the policy.
